What is Water Weight and How to Lose It

A lot of people find it very easy to lose a lot of weight in the first couple of weeks of a new diet – they might lose around 8 pounds and they will start thinking that they have found the greatest diet of all time. In fact I have a friend who is just going through this right now and all he is doing is calorie counting. He told me that he has only been eating around 1200 calories a day and has lost 7-8 pounds of fat in under two weeks. I told him that is impossible (hes not a big guy) and explained to him:

 

There are 3600 calories in a pound of fat – you are losing 1000 calories a day on your diet – at most you can have lose 1000 * 14  = 14 000 calories (around 4 pounds of fat!).

 

That is just 4 pounds of fat – so what accounts for the other 4 pounds my friend has lost? Well he claims his body is just “different” to most people. Well that is most likely NOT the case. In fact the truth is he has not lost 8 pounds of fat, and has probably not even lost 4 pounds. Most of the weight he has lost is called “water weight”.

 

Most of our bodyweight (around 60%) is water. Our body can hold a lot more water than in needs too, and it often does. It can make you look bloated and heavier than you actually are. Water weight is caused by our bodies holding more water than it needs too. This is not a bad thing because it means you might have a few pounds of weight that you can lose very easily and safely! You have nothing to lose by trying – except weight!

 

To lose water weight you have to – and this is pretty counter intuitive – drink more water! You need to rinse your body out basically – so try drinking 8 -10 glasses of water during the course of a day and you should be able to get all that water weight that is stuck in you, washed out.

 

One reason you might be holding on to water weight is your diet – people whose diet is high in salt tend to have a much higher amount of water retention. Your body does not like too much salt, and to counter its effect it needs a lot of water, that it will hold onto for as long as it can. So too wash out that salt, those 8-10 glasses of water should do the trick!

 

A healthy diet and plenty of water will help with your weight loss journey in general, so try and make little life style adjustments here and there and you are sure to benefit in more ways than you imagine.

Summer is coming up once again, and we all want to get in shape fast! Well worry not, in this post we will look at some quick ways of losing weight for the summer so we can get in our swimsuits without being embarrassed!

If you have got 40-60 days before you are going on holiday you are in a lot of luck! The insanity workout was created by an ex choreographer called Shaun-T. He will put you body through hell for 60 days in his own home workout. As long as you put the DVD’s in (6 days a week) and just get on with it you are going to lose a LOT of weight and be look amazing for the summer. Start Counting Calories

 

First of all work out how many calories your body needs to maintain it’s current weight – (roughly 1600 for women, 1800 for men), and then start counting calories! To lose 1 pound a week you must eat 500 calories less than it takes to maintain your weigh each day. To lose 2 pounds, you must eat 500 calories less per day AND exercise to burn off another 500 calories a day. I do not adivse you to lose more than 2 pounds of fat a week.

 

Eat a healthy diet

 

Eat a high fibre breakfast, snack on fruits and nuts (non salted) – make sure you have plenty of protein and very importantly, cut out all the fatty foods, processed foods, sugary foods and chocolate from your diet! There is no need for them, they will slow down your metabolism and they will increase the amount of fat you have stored up. Replace sugary drinks with diet drinks, and chocolate with an apple or grapes. I know this all sounds obvious but this really will provide you with Quick ways to lose weight for the summer.

 

Snack on “negative calorie” foods

 

Regardless of whether these foods are actually negative calorie foods or not, they are incredibly good foods to snack on during a diet. Foods like Celery, Grapes, Cabbage, Celery, Cucumber, Garlic, Grapefruit, Grapefruit, Green beans, Hot Chilli’s, Lemon, Lettuce, Radish, Spinach, Tomato and turnip contain almost 0 calories. Get outside and do something

 

If you are like me you could probably idle away the hours in front of the computer or tv. That is not good if you want to lose weight – you have to force your self up and go do something. A walk would be great. Or even going shopping! Shopping for clothes for 2-3 hours and trying on outfits etc, is atually a great way to burn calories. If you are feeling really active go for a jog, or persuade a friend to play a game of tennis or to go swimming with you. Start today and you will burn all those calories you need so that you can look great for the summer.

Instead of following a hard to keep up with diet plan, or a fad diet based around grape fruits or some other citrus fruit, why not just tweak your current diet with a few Weight loss tips to lose the weight.

 

Tip 1
Set a goal and stick to it! Set something realistic, even if it is small and aim for it – a pound a week is a good start. If you do not hit in your first week, look at where you went wrong, make adjustments and go for it again next week. Never give up.
Tip 2
Drink only water, black coffee/tea and diet drinks. Cut out all sugary drinks and sodas, and don’t buy going buying anything from a place like starbucks – these coffee places manage to cram in a ridiculous amount of calories even into a small. If you currently drink a full sugar drink each day, and were to cut it out from your diet, you will be well on your way to losing a pound a week! Even healthy drinks like orange that might be good for you, contain lot of calories. You really cant beat water!
Tip 3
Exercise once a day! If you can add 30 – 40 mins of mid intensity exercise to your diet five times a week, you will be burning enough calories to lose a pound a week. You could go for a jog or join an aerobic class – or you could simply load up a home workout video on youtube and do that for free in your own house!
Tip 4
Weigh yourself once a week. There is no need to weigh yourself everyday – instead weigh your self once a week and record your weight. If you have put on a pound try and workout why, or where you went wrong. Next week you will easily be able to make up for it.
Tip 5
Work out how many calories a day you need to eat to hit your target. If you are trying to lose 1 pound a week you need to burn 3500 caloires a week. If you are a man you burn around 2000 calories a day, and if you are a woman you burn around 1600 calories a day. If you eat 500 caloies a day less than you need, you will burn 3500 calories a week extra, which is your pound a week! If you cant eat as little as that a day, do 500 calories worth of exercise a day instead. Easy right?
