So you have lost some weight.. Now how to keep it off…?

First off, CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss! Feels good doesnt it? And the best thing is, you never have to lose that feeling. But for every ying there is yang, and the yang in this case is the awful feeling of putting every pound your lose back on. Lets make sure that never happens!

Step 1 - Continue your diet

Ok you may not want to keep losing weight, but if you want to remain at your current weight you need to remember the lessons learnt during your diet! Where you watching your calorie intake? Then keep watching it, just allow your self a couple of hundred more calories a day now. Did you stop eating crisps and sweets? Then make sure you only have them very occasionally even now, as a treat. To keep your weight how it is, you have to keep on dieting, just not quite as strictly.

Step 2 - Weigh yourself regually

I weigh myself daily in the morning (before breakfast) but a lot of people only weigh once a week or even once a fortnight. This is very important to keep up even after your diet is complete. Then if you notice each week you are putting on a pound, realise that you are going to put it all back on before long and something needs to change.

Step 3 - Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

Your body is clever. It will adjust itself to your new calorie intake after a few weeks and decide it doesnt need so much to run everything after all.  This means even though you are eating the same amount, you dont need as much as you used to, and your body will take the extra calories and turn them into fat as storage. But this can be stopped - exercise once or twice a week with a game of tennis or a 3 mile jog - and it will not only make up for this but it will start to tone you and give you better body definition too!

Step 4 - Build muscle!

This may or may not have been part of your original diet, but it is SO important to keep fat off for good! Infact this is the most important post weight loss advice. The more muscle you have the more calories your body will burn naturally, daily. Once you have built a bit of muscle you will lose weight and look great!
